Abies balsamea BALSAM FIR

Zone: 4 Height: 50 ft. Width: 20-25 ft.

A pyramidal and stately shaped needled evergreen. Prefers good drainage and colder climates. An excellent evergreen specimen.

 

Abies balsamea phanerolepis CANAAN FIR

Zone 4 Height: 50 ft. Width: 20-25 ft.

Similar to A. fraseri but is more tolerant to wet and dry conditions. Later bud break in the spring makes this variety less susceptible to late spring frost damage.

 

Abies concolor CONCOLOR FIR/WHITE FIR

Zone: 4 Height: 60 ft. Width: 15-30 ft.

A pyramidal shaped, blue-green needled evergreen. Often as blue as a good Blue Spruce. One of the finest Firs for the North-eastern states. Very hardy and resistant to heat and drought. Also disease resistant.

 

Abies fraseri FRASER FIR

Zone: 5 Height: 50-75 ft. Width: 20-25 ft.

Popular conifer having thick glossy green needles and a dense conical growth habit. Outstanding as a specimen or planted in small groups. Prefers rich, well-drained soil in full sun.

Chamaecyparis Lawsoniana 'BLUE SCARB' CYPRESS

Zone: 5  Height: 20ft.

Blue gray foliage with growth habit similar to arborvitae but slower growing. Must be protected in Zone 4.

Chamaecyparis lawsoniana ‘Sullivan’ SULLIVAN FALSECYPRESS

20 ft. (Zone 5) Blue-green foliage with upright sweeping branches and pendulous branchlets. Grows in sun or shade. Some protection from sweeping winter winds may be required.

Chamaecyparis nootkadensis glauca BLUE NOOTKA FALSE CYPRESS

Zone: 4 Height: 30-45 ft.

Upright habit with slightly drooping tips and branchlets that drape down from branches. Evergreen foliage is bluish-green. Plant in moist well-drained soil in sun. Very hardy, makes an unusual and beautiful specimen. Not to be con fused with Weeping Nootka Cypress.

30 ft. (Zone 4) Beautiful, graceful, elegantly arranged weeping branches and rich green foliage. Prefers moist well-drained soil in full or part sun. Makes a beautiful landscape specimen.

30 ft. (Zone 4) Beautiful, graceful, weeping branches and rich green foliage. Habit is much more dense as compared to other C. nootkatensis ‘Pendula’. Prefers moist well-drained soil in full or part sun. Makes a beautiful landscape specimen.

Juniperus chinensis ‘Armstrong Aurea’ OLD GOLD JUNIPER

3-4 ft. (Zone 4) Compact golden yellow foliage with good winter color retention. Prefer well-drained soil in full sun. Used in foundation plantings, mixed borders, or in the rock garden. Also makes a great evergreen specimen for winter interest in a perennial garden. Shrub and Pom Pom forms.

Fast growing deciduous tree with a pyramidal habit. Needles are dark green in summer turning orange or red-brown in fall. Prefers moist acid soil in full sun. Keep away from severe winter winds. Used as a specimen or in groves.

Good dark green winter color and very narrow upright growth habit. Can be easily maintained as hedging by trimming. Very similar to Thuja o. ‘Nigra’. Also known as Northern White Cedar.

Pyramidal growth habit with excellent dark green color throughout the year. Rapidly becoming the most popular evergreen planted as a hedge.
