Rutger’s Stellar Series Dogwoods A long awaited group of Dogwood hybrids resulting from crosses between Cornus florida and Cornus kousa. Produced by Dr. Elwin Orton of Rutgers University, these trees exhibit qualities of both parents. Mostly upright in youth and spreading with age. White and pink flowering varieties are available with differences in bract shape evident among each cultivar. These vigorous trees are resistant to Dogwood Anthracnose and Dogwood Borer.

Crataegus viridis ‘Winter King’ WINTER KING HAWTHORN Zone: 4 Height: 25- 30 ft. Width: 20-25 ft. Fruit: 1/4” White flowers in late spring, glossy green foliage in summer turning red in the fall, along with bright red-orange berries. Habit is more open and rounded than some other hawthorns. Fruit persists with good color well into late winter or early spring. Magnolia x leobneri ‘Leonard Messell’ LEONARD MESSELL MAGNOLIA Zone: 5 Height: 15-20 ft. Width: 20 ft. Deep pink buds open in early spring forming scented lilac-pink blossoms. Magnolia x liliiflora ‘Ann’ ANN MAGNOLIA Zone: 6 Height: 8-10 ft. Width: 10 ft. Very similar but smaller growing than M.x ‘Betty’, flowers are reddish-purple on the outside white on the inside. Saucer-type.

Magnolia stellata ‘Royal Star’ ROYAL STAR MAGNOLIA Zone: 5 Height: 15-20 ft. Width: 10 ft. Similar in appearance to M. stellata but is larger and faster growing. Fragrant white star-type flowers up to 4” across bloom 1-2 weeks later than M. stellata. Sun or partial shade. Magnolia Sou SAUCER MAGNOLIA Zone: 5 Height: 25 ft. Width: Variable but often equal to height Saucer-type flowers are colored pink outside and white inside. Large, highly fragrant, creamy-white flowers in late June. Long, dark, shiny green foliage is often semi-evergreen farther south.
