Chionanthus virginicus WHITE FRINGE TREE

Normally growing as a multi-stemmed or low branching small tree. Abundant 6 to 8 inch long fleecy white fragrant blooms in spring before the foliage. Natural growth habit is that of a large shrub or multi-stemmed tree. Small yellow flowers appear in early spring becoming showy red edible fruit in late summer and fall. Attractive to many forms of wildlife.

 

Rutger’s Stellar Series Dogwoods

A long awaited group of Dogwood hybrids resulting from crosses between Cornus florida and Cornus kousa. Produced by Dr. Elwin Orton of Rutgers University, these trees exhibit qualities of both parents. Mostly upright in youth and spreading with age. White and pink flowering varieties are available with differences in bract shape evident among each cultivar. These vigorous trees are resistant to Dogwood Anthracnose and Dogwood Borer.

Zone: 4 Height: 25- 30 ft. Width: 20-25 ft. Fruit: 1/4”

White flowers in late spring, glossy green foliage in summer turning red in the fall, along with bright red-orange berries. Habit is more open and rounded than some other hawthorns. Fruit persists with good color well into late winter or early spring.

A more upright form of M. stellata having pink buds with star-type white flowers that are larger than the species and highly fragrant.

Large, highly fragrant, creamy-white flowers in late June. Long, dark, shiny green foliage is often semi-evergreen farther south. Does best in moist, rich but well drained soil in a slightly protected location.

An excellent weeper. Makes a magnificent specimen. No fruit and bright green leaves. Yellow fall color.

One of the few trees that bloom in the summer. White flowers in late July through early August. Foliage is glossy green turning scarlet in autumn. Will grow in sun or partial shade. Slow growth rate.

Prunus x ‘Snowfountain’® SNOWFOUNTAIN® WEEPING JAPANESE CHERRY

Graceful weeping, irregular form. Literally covered with snow-white blossoms in the spring. Dark green leaves turn a brilliant orange in fall. This small growing form of Weeping Cherry is perfect for your oriental and rock gardens or small yards. Very easy to maintain at a desired size. Bottom and top grafted.

Prunus subhirtella ‘Autumnalis’ AUTUMN FLOWERING CHERRY

Zone: 5 Height: 25 ft.

Vase to rounded shaped tree. Beautiful semi-double pink flowers in spring, with some reoccurring flowers during warm falls. Dark green foliage turns orange to yellow in fall. Plant in well-drained soil in sun. Can be used as a street tree or specimen.

Prunus subhirtella ‘Pendula Plena Rosea’ WEEPING JAPANESE CHERRY

Zone: 5 Height: 12-15 ft. Width: 12-15 ft.

Very beautiful and graceful form of Weeping Cherry. Flowers are double pink.  Dark green foliage turns yellow to bronze in the fall. Top grafted form.

Pyrus calleryana ‘Aristocrat’ (P.P.No. 3193) ARISTOCRAT PEAR

Zone: 4 Height: 40 ft. Width: 28 ft.

Upright-rounded shape with open, spreading branches. Narrow, dark green, glossy green foliage turns burgundy for fall. White blossoms in spring later than Bradford Pear.

 

Pyrus calleryana ‘Chanticleer’ CHANTICLEER PEAR

Zone: 4 Height: 40 ft. Width: 16 ft.

Upright, narrowly pyramidal shape with glossy green foliage that turns reddish- yellow for fall. White clusters of flowers appear in spring. Very similar to, if not the same as, Cleveland Select Pear.

Pyrus calleryana ‘Cleveland Select’ CLEVELAND SELECT PEAR

Zone: 4 Height: 30-35 ft. Width: 16 ft

A splendid, evenly branched tree with pyramidal form. Young trees bloom white better than P.c.’Bradford’, followed by crisp, glossy green leaves. Very similar to, if not the same as, Chanticleer Pear.

Stewartia pseudocamellia JAPANESE STEWARTIA

Zone: 5 Height: 20-30 ft. Width: 20 ft.

Camellia-like white flowers that show in mid summer. One of the few summer bloomers. Fall color make an excellent display of scarlet to reddish-purple. Beautiful exfoliating bark leaves the trunk a fantastic combination.

 

Styrax japonica JAPANESE SNOWBELL

Zone: 5 Height: 20-30 ft. Width: 25 ft.

A small, low branched tree with white, bell-shaped flowers in May and June.

 

Styrax japonica ‘JFS-D’ SNOWCONE® JAPANESE SNOWBELL

25 ft. (Zone 5) Densely branched with dark green foliage and white, bell shaped flowers. Yellow fall color.

 

Syringa reticulata JAPANESE TREE LILAC

Zone: 4 Height: 20-30 ft. Width: 15-25 ft.

Large clusters of creamy-white flowers appear in mid to late June. Often used as an accent tree in beds, borders and small yards. Does well in sun or partial shade.

Sturdy, more compact, oval growth habit than S.a. japonica. Large, creamy- white flowers in early July. Cherry-like bark. Single stem form only.
