  TOMATOES

Determinate - Plants grow to a certain size and produce all their fruit at once.

Indeterminate - Plants continue growing and producing fruit until frost.  Needs to be staked.  

Semi Determinate - Plants grow to a certain size and produce almost all their fruit at one time, with some fruit coming after the first production.  

 

 

CHERRY

Black Cherry - 65 Days - Indeterminate - Prolific dark cherry tomato.  Very rich flavor and has an excellent color.

Gails Sweet Plum - 70 Days - Indeterminate - A plum sized tomato that is good for salads or for paste. Heavy yields with an astounding taste.

Ghost Cherry - 70 Days - Indeterminate - Unusual square-like 2" fruits.  Very sweet, pale yellow with peach like skin.  Very rare.  Was # 1 in flavor in an informal taste test.

Red Pear - (cherry) 78 Days - Indeterminate - Hugh yields of tiny, bright, pear-shaped tomatoes.  Flavorful and very sweet.

Yellow Pear  - (cherry) 78 Days - Indeterminate - Hugh yields of tiny, bright yellow pear-shaped fruits.  Flavor is very similar to the Red Pear.

Snow White - (cherry) 75 Days - Indeterminate - Very sweet, ivory-colored fruit.  Huge yields.  Recommended.

Sun Gold -(cherry) 57 Days - Indeterminate - Apricot colored.  Considered the best cherry tomato ever developed.  Very sweet with a hint of acidity.  A hybrid variety with very high yields.

Super Sweet 100 -(cherry) 78 Days - Indeterminate - A very popular cherry tomato. Clusters of very sweet fruits that will surely tantalize your taste buds.

Sweet Chelsea -(cherry) 68 Days - Indeterminate - Heavy producing plants bear trusses of large sweet cherries. Disease resistant plant starts producing early and continues throughout the season. Hybrid

SALAD

Bulgarian Triumph - 81 Days - Indeterminate - 4 oz. fruits in clusters of 4 to 6.  A vigorous sprawling plant with high yields.  Very reliable with round, blemish-free fruits that are not overly sweet.  Deep rich flavor that is typical of Bulgarian tomatoes.  Disease resistant. 

Sugary - 60 Days - Indeterminate - 2005 Award winner.  Vigorous grower with super sweet fruit.

Green Zebra - 78 Days - Determinate - Beautiful clusters of 3 oz. lime-green with yellow-striped fruit.  Rich tasting with a sweet flavor and a sharp bite.

Bloody Butcher - 65 Days - Indeterminate - High yielding plant produces dark red, 4 oz. fruits that are born in clusters.  Very early.

Aurora - 65 Days - Indeterminate - Very early.  Scarlet  to yellow-orange, 2 to 3 oz. fruits:  Non-cracking.  Very flavorful variety from Siberia.  

 

Flamme - 70 Days - Indeterminate - French heirloom.  Produces clusters of small, orange-yellow tomatoes.  Full flavored.  Grows well here.

Tigerella - 70 Days - Indeterminate - Red with golden stripes.  Early and prolific with superb flavor.

Early Girl - 52  Days - Indeterminate - Very early Heavy producer of 4-6 oz. tomatoes. Hybrid.

High Country - 60 Days - Indeterminate - From Montana. One plant will produce over 100 tasty 3-4 oz. scarlet fruits. Flesh is thick and can also be used as a paste tomato.

Juliet - 60 Days - Indeterminate - Clusters of 12 to 18 small tomatoes weighing 1-2 oz. cover  the entire plant.

MAINSTREAM

Adventure - 85 Days Indeterminate - Bright red 6-10 oz. fruits are perfectly formed and are smooth, with no cracks or blemishes. Sweet, great flavor.

Abraham Lincoln75 Days - Indeterminate - Introduced in 1923.  8 oz. fruits with a great flavor on a vigorous grower.

Akers West Virginia - 77 Days - Indeterminate - A thick-stemmed, vigorous plant producing in clusters.  Each tomato weighs 10 oz to 1 lb.  A nice blend of juice and flesh, rarely having blemishes or cracks.

Andrew Rahart's Jumbo Red - 80 Days - Indeterminate - Collected from an Italian immigrant in New York City.  A fairly large tomato with huge taste that is not too sweet or tart.  Large yields for a large Beef Steak variety.

Anna Russian - 75 Days - Indeterminate - Early producing, beautiful heart-shaped fruits weighing about 1 lb.  Sweet and juicy.  Plants look spindly and droopy.  That is normal for this plant.

Bear Claw - 80 Days Indeterminate - Large 2 pound pink fruit that are beefsteak in style but can be a little rough looking. fine flavor and good yields more than make up for the looks.

Beefsteak - 85 Days Indeterminate - Good yields of a popular slicing tomato.

Blue Ridge Mountain- 80 Days Indeterminate - Potato leafed variety producing pink beefsteak style fruit in the one pound range. Delicious old fashioned flavor.

Better Boy - 80 Days Indeterminate - A slicer that is a fixture in any garden.

Boon Docks- 80 Days Indeterminate - From New York. Large plants set lots of flattened tomatoes weighing up to 2 pounds. Excellent flavor.

Box Car Willie - 80 Days - Indeterminate - A main-crop variety that produces a heavy crop of excellent tasting, 6 to 8 oz. fruits.

Brandy Wine - 80 Days - Indeterminate - Considered by many to be the best tasting tomato.  This is the original potato-leafed pink Beef Steak type.

Break O' Day - 78 Days - Semi Determinate - A heavy producer of 6 to 8 oz. fruits all season long.  Smooth and blemish-free flesh.  A good sandwich tomato.

Carbon - 76 Days - Indeterminate - Recommended.  Large smooth fruits that are very dark-colored.  Rich-flavored fruits that have been placing high in taste tests at Cornell University and also nationwide.  Rare.

Caspian Pink - 75 Days Indeterminate - Very similar to Brandywine but that it sets more fruits and is much more consistent year after year.

Cosmonaut Volkov - 65 Days - Indeterminate - Vigorous plants that are quick growing.  8 to 12 oz. fruits are sweet and rich.  Named after a Russian Cosmonaut.  Recommended.

Cuor Di Bue (Ox Heart) - 82 Days - Indeterminate - Ox Heart type with fruits reaching 1 lb. or more.  Very versatile with a sweet taste.  Vigorous vines.

Cuostralee - 80 Days - Indeterminate - Large beefsteak type. Very meaty with a rich flavor. Very productive. From France. Grown By Request.

Debbie - 80 Days - Indeterminate - Dense fleshed fruit are tasty and tart, not sweet. Usually high yields of 12oz. to 1 pound fruit.

Delicious - 75 Days - Indeterminate - 8 oz. to 1 pound red fruit. Names says it all.

Dr. Lyle - 77 Days - Indeterminate - A unique-looking plant with fuzzy leaves and white/ivory colored flowers.  Loads of large, pink Beef Steak tomatoes.  A very rich taste.  This is one of the older heirlooms, and the identity of Dr. Lyle is unknown.

Druzba - 80 Days - Indeterminate - From Bulgaria.  A good producer of small, 4 to 6 oz. fruits with an outstanding flavor.

Dutchman -

Earl of Edgecombe - 85 Days - Indeterminate - High yields of 6-10 oz. Beautiful Deep orange fruit, superb flavor. Fruits are uniform and crack free.

Eva Purple Ball - 75 Days - Indeterminate - A prolific producer of 8oz. fruits in clusters. From the Black Forest Region in Germany brought to the US by the Amish or Mennonites. Very reliable with sweet,  juicy fruits.

Fred Limbaughs Potato Top - 80 Days - Indeterminate - An heirloom saved by Fred Limbaugh of Robinson, Pa. slightly fluted 1-2 pound pink beefsteak type fruit. An old fashion tomato taste that is exceptionally juicy fruit and sweet with just the right amount of acid. One of the best of the heirlooms. Great for sandwiches. 

German Head - 71 Days - Indeterminate - A very sturdy plant with lots of foliage.  Large, dark pink Beef Steak fruits.  Flesh is cream-like with a smooth, sweet taste.

German Red Strawberry - 86 Days - Indeterminate - Large, strawberry-shaped fruits.  Spindly plant.  Has nice yields of delicious, aromatic 1 lb. fruits.

Marglobe - 72 Days - Determinate - An old time favorite producing loads of 8 to 10 oz. fruits.  Heavy producer for a bush type.  Above average for a table tomato.

Marianna's  Peace- 80 Days - Indeterminate - A very large Pink Beef Steak tomato that weighs up to 2 lbs.  The fruits have a good mix of acidity and sweetness.  Very vigorous potato-leaved vines.

Mikarda Sweet -

Missouri Pink Love Apple - 80 Days - Indeterminate - Pre Civil War heirloom. Huge producer of 1/2-1 lb. pink beefsteaks that are perfect for sandwiches. A great main crop variety due to its heavy yields and great taste.

Mortgage Lifter - 85 Days - Indeterminate - Also called Radiator Charlie. Developed in the 1940s by M.C. Byles from Logan W. Virginia. Legend has it that he sold his seedlings for one dollar each and paid off his Mortgage to his house. Fruits are large, smooth with a sweet taste. A popular variety. 

Mrs. Benson80 Days - Indeterminate - Medium sized pink tomato with a wonderful sweet,fruity plavor. Crack and blemish free. Very productive. An heirloom from Oswego IL.

Mrs. Houseworth - 78 Days - Indeterminate - An heirloom dating to the 1930's raised by Mrs Houseworth of Centerville, Pa. Fruits are luscious, heart shaped and pink

Neves Azorea Red - 80 Days - Indeterminate -  1 pound fruits are uniquely deep and rich in flavor. Brought to the US by the Neves Family from the Azores which is a Portuguese Island Chain.

Orange Strawberry - 80 Days - Indeterminate - Heart shaped. Deep orange fruits are sweet and juicy. Very pretty in the garden. High producing. Scott has grown this one for years and its a all around winner. 

Pink Climber - 84 Days - Indeterminate - A potato-leaved variety that will produce a mountain of 12 to 16 oz. flat pink fruit.

Polish Giant - 81 Days - Indeterminate - Impressive yields of 1-2 lb. fruit that has a well balanced blend of flavor

Prudens Purple - 72 Days - Indeterminate - Potato-leaved plant similar to Brandy Wine, but the 1 lb. fruits are 3 weeks earlier.  Good slicer with few seeds.  Great for making salsa.

Red Penna - 82 Days - Indeterminate - 1-2 pound dense tomatoes grow in clusters of 2 or 3. Juicy with a hint of tartness. Vigorous plant with high yields make  it a good sandwich tomato

Redfield Beauty - 88 Days - Indeterminate - A mid to late-season tomato weighing 6 to 8 oz's.  Sweet fruit grown in clusters, and are very pretty. 

Reif Red Heart - 80 Days - Indeterminate - Red Heart shaped fruits in the 1 lb. range. Rich flavored that is tangy with a sweet after taste. Heavy, dense fruit with a delicious aroma.

Rose De Berne - 80 Days - Indeterminate - Perfectly round 5 oz. pink fruits.  Very sweet with thin skins.  A variety from France.

Rutgers - 75 Days - Indeterminate - An old-time variety that is an all-around tomato.  Good for slicing, cooking, or canning.  An original variety from New Jersey that produces 5 to 8 oz. fruits.  

Sandul Moldovan - 83 Days - Indeterminate - From Moldova, large pink Beef Steaks that are dense and quite sweet.  Foliage is wispy and droopy, but is vigorous with high yields.

Sashas Altai - 59 Days - Indeterminate - Extraordinarily sweet and juicy flavor.  3", 5 to 8 oz., slightly flattened bright red fruits.  

Soldacki - 80 Days - Indeterminate - Plants produce heavy yields of 14 oz., pink fruits.  Sweet and tart, and very good for sandwiches.  Brought from Karakow, Poland to Cleveland.

Teton De Venus - Indeterminate - An oxheart type. Fruits are heart shaped and hang in pairs. Very meaty and extremely sweet. plants have a wilty look but that is normal for this type of plant.

Tiffen Mennonite - 86 Days - Indeterminate - A huge plant with high yields.  Potato-leaved variety that is quite tolerant of disease.  Large 1 lb. fruits.

PASTE

Amish - 85 Days - Indeterminate - A Wisconsin heirloom that produces lots of 8 oz, slightly tart fruits that are excellent for canning.  Larger than Roma.

Goldmans Italian-American - 78 Days - Indeterminate - Red, Pear shaped. Fluted tomato in the 1 lb. range Great flavor with few seeds. Makes a very good creamy sauce. Originally from Cernobbio Italy.

Opalaka - 76 Days - Indeterminate - From Poland.  Large banana=shaped fruit that has very few seeds.  Very sweet variety.

Polish Linguisa - 73 Days - Indeterminate - Hugh sausage-shaped fruits up to 10 oz's.  Can be eaten fresh but excellent for sauces.  Heavy yields.  Heirloom variety from the 1800s.

Polish Memorial - 80 Days - Indeterminate - Strong, bushy plants.  Produces high yields of irregularly-shaped ribbed tomatoes.  Very meaty with few seeds.  Very rare.

Rio Grande - 88 Days - Indeterminate - Giant plum paste variety that is much larger and tastier than the Roma paste tomato.

San Marzano - 90 Days - Indeterminate - One of the best paste tomatoes.  Harvests over a long period of time.  This is the Italian strain.

YELLOW AND ORANGE

 

Hughs - 79 Days - Indeterminate - Pale yellow beefsteak type. weighs up to 2 pounds. High yields with a superb, sweet taste.

Manyel - 80 Days - Indeterminate - Citrus-like flavor. Perfect yellow globes. This variety is very old and is velieved to have originated with the Native Americans. High Producer of10 oz.-1 pound fruits all summer. Spindly-looking plant with little foliage.

Persimmon - 80 Days - Indeterminate - One of the best tasting of  the orange tomatoes. Very vigorous plants produce very meaty 1 to 2 pound fruits.

Yellow Ruffled - 80 Days - Indeterminate - An unusual tomato that is deeply pleated. Mild tasting fruit are hollow on the inside like a bell pepper and are good for stuffing and salads.
