Ampelopsis brevipedunculata elegans VARIEGATED PORCELAINBERRY VINE

(Zone 5) Deciduous, twining vine with white, green, and pinkish variegated foliage. Distinctive sky-blue and ivory berries in mid-summer. Sun or light shade.

 

Aristolochia macrophylla DUTCHMAN’S PIPE

(Zone 4-8) A very fast growing vine that climbs by twining around any appropriate structure. Large green Redbud-like leaves and yellow-green flowers that are shaped like a pipe in May-June. Very good screening vine.

 

Campsis radicans TRUMPET VINE

(Zone 5) Hardy, fast growing vine climbing by aerial rootlets. Needs little or no support. Showy trumpet-shaped orange flowers are mass produced in late summer. Bloom time normally lasts well over a month.

Campsis x tagliabuana 'Mme Galen' MME GALEN TRUMPET VINE

(Zone 5) A hybrid trumpet vine that puts on spectacular clusters of deep apricot flowers in summer and fall. A vigorous grower that climbs by means of aerial rootlets. Trim back newly planted plants to 6-8 inches to promote climbing.

 

Clematis / Virgin’s Bower

Very popular vine with large showy blooms up to 6-8 inches across. Flowers are available in many colors and bloom times. Climbs by wrapping its petioles around a support. Plant in a well-drained site with organic soil. Vine loves sun, but the root zone needs to be shaded.

 

Clematis ‘Ernest Markham’ ERNEST MARKHAM CLEMATIS

8-10 ft. (Zone 5) On trellis or similar support. Best in full sun, and well-drained soil. Mulch or shade root zone. Flowers July, August and September, magenta-red with golden anthers. Very vigorous grower.

Clematis ‘Evione’ (P.P.No.10222) SUGAR CANDY CLEMATIS

8-10 ft. (Zone 5) On trellis or similar support. Best in full sun, and well-drained soil. Mulch or shade root zone. Flowers May-September, 6-7” pinkish-mauve pointed petals with a darker center bar and yellow anthers with pinkish grey filaments.

 

Clematis ‘Henryii’ HENRYII CLEMATIS or VIRGIN’S BOWER

8-10 ft. (Zone 5) On trellis or similar support. Best in full sun, and well-drained soil. Mulch or shade root zone. Flowers June and September, large white with brown anthers. Very nice variety.

Clematis 'Jackmanii' JACKMAN'S CLEMATIS or VIRGIN'S BOWER

8-10 ft. (Zone 5) On trellis or similar support. Best in full sun, and well-drained soil. Mulch or shade root zone. The most profuse blooming dark purple Clematis. Flowers June-July and September.

Clematis ‘Lanuginosa Candida’ CANDIDA CLEMATIS or VIRGIN’S BOWER

8-10 ft. (Zone 5) On trellis or similar support. Best in full sun, and well-drained soil. Mulch or shade root zone. Flowers in June, July and September, large white with yellow anthers. Many petals give the appearance of semi-double flowers.

 

Clematis ‘Nelly Moser’ NELLY MOSER CLEMATIS or VIRGIN’S BOWER

8-10 ft. (Zone 5) On trellis or similar support. Best in full sun, and well-drained soil. Mulch or shade root zone. Flowers June and September, pale pink with a red bar.

Clematis ‘Niobe’ NIOBE CLEMATIS or VIRGIN’S BOWER

8-10 ft. (Zone 5) On trellis or similar support. Best in full sun, and well-drained soil. Mulch or shade root zone. Very dark ruby-red flowers with golden anthers that bloom June, August, and September.

Clematis ‘The President’ THE PRESIDENT CLEMATIS or VIRGIN’S BOWER

8-12 ft. (Zone 5) On trellis or similar support. Best in full sun, and well-drained soil. Mulch or shade root zone. Blooms late June through September. Flowers are violet-blue with reddish purple anthers.

Clematis terniflora (paniculata) SWEET AUTUMN CLEMATIS

10-20 ft. (Zone 5) September-October this plant produces scented white flowers that are smaller than other varieties of Clematis.

 

Clematis ‘Viticella Venosa Violacea’ VITICELLA VENOSA VIOLACEA CLEMATIS or VIRGIN’S BOWER

8-10 ft. (Zone 5) On trellis or similar support. Best in full sun, and well-drained soil. Mulch or shade root zone. Flowers July and August, 4-5” white with purple veins turning all purple on the edges. Very unique variety.

 

Clematis ‘Will Goodwin’ WILL GOODWIN CLEMATIS or VIRGIN’S BOWER

8-10 ft. (Zone 5) On trellis or similar support. Best in full sun, and well-drained soil. Mulch or shade root zone. Flowers June-September, true blue with large overlapping petals and golden anthers.

 

Hydrangea anomala subsp. Petiolaris CLIMBING HYDRANGEA

(Zone 4) Foliage is a rich dark green color. Large white fragrant lacecap-like flowers appear in late June or early July and bloom over an extended period of time. Climbs by aerial rootlets and will grow in sun but prefers partial shade.

Lonicera x heckrottii ‘Goldflame’ GOLD FLAME HONEYSUCKLE

(Zone 5) Rose-pink fragrant flowers produced from June until frost. Climbs by means of twining stems. Does well in sun or shade. A natural companion for fences, arbors, trellis, and walls.

Lonicera japonica ‘Halliana’ HALL’S HONEYSUCKLE

(Zone 5) A twining vine. Semi-evergreen foliage. Fragrant yellow and white flowers. Rapid growing twining vine that can also be used as a groundcover and is excellent for covering large or steep banks. Grows very well in shady areas.

 

Parthenocissus quinquefolia VIRGINIA CREEPER

(Zone 3) Native, deciduous clinging vine having broad glossy green compound leaves that turn crimson red in autumn. Climbs any surface by means of small adhesive discs on tendril tips. Excellent cover on walls, fences, trellises, ect. Also useful as a ground cover. Sun or shade.

 

Parthenocissus quinquefolia ‘Engelmanni’ ENGELMAN IVY

(Zone 3-9) A cultivar of P. quinquefolia that has smaller leaves. Clings well to masonry and has deep burgundy fall color. Small blue fruits that are attractive to birds.

 

Parthenocissus tricuspidata BOSTON IVY

(Zone 4) Three lobed shiny green leaves turn to scarlet-red in autumn prior to leaf fall. Needing no support, Boston Ivy will cling tightly to most any surface by means of adhesive discs on tendril tips. Stems and foliage project only inches from the surface to which it is attached.

 

Polygonum aubertii SILVER LACE VINE

(Zone 4) Twining, fast growing, deciduous vine. Loose, white, sweet-scented flower clusters from July until frost. Excellent for trellises or fences. Prefers sun to light shade.

Vitis ‘Concord’ CONCORD GRAPE

(Zone 4) Most popular blue-black grape. Clusters are compact with medium to large berries. Vigorous grower. Used for juice, wine, and fresh eating.

 

Wisteria sinensis TREE WISTERIA

(Zone 5) A deciduous twining vine that develops heavy wooden trunks over time. Full, hanging flower clusters 8-12” long in May. May require several years to flower. Full sun. Vine and Tree forms.
